Ingredients
2 tablespoons black seeds (Nigella sativa), whole or lightly crushed
1 cup filtered water
1 tablespoon raw apple cider vinegar with the mother
1/2 lemon, juiced
1 teaspoon raw honey, added after the drink cools to warm
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger or 3 slices fresh ginger
1 pinch turmeric, optional
Instructions
1. Place 2 tablespoons of black seeds in a small saucepan. Add 1 cup of filtered water. Bring to a gentle simmer over low heat. Do not boil hard.
2. Simmer at low heat for 8 to 10 minutes until the water turns a deep dark amber color and smells earthy and peppery.
3. Turn off heat. Cover saucepan with a lid and steep off the heat for 5 minutes.
4. Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a glass. Press seeds gently to capture all liquid. Discard spent seeds.
5. Add apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, and ginger. Stir well. Wait until drink cools to warm, then add honey and stir until dissolved.
6. Drink the full amount 15 to 20 minutes before your first meal. Start with 1 teaspoon the first week before increasing to the full dose.
Notes
Batch cold-infusion method: Place 4 tablespoons black seeds, 2 cups water, 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, juice of 1 lemon, 2 teaspoons honey, and 1/2 teaspoon ginger in a sealed glass jar. Refrigerate 24 to 48 hours. Use 2 tablespoons of concentrate in 1/2 cup warm water each morning. Makes 5 to 7 daily doses.
Start with 1 teaspoon for the first 3 days before increasing to 2 teaspoons. Never start at the full tablespoon dose on day one.
Always drink one full glass of plain warm water 5 minutes before taking the bitters to protect the stomach lining.
Never add honey while the drink is still hot. Heat above 104F destroys honey’s active enzymes. Add after cooling to warm only.
Never simmer longer than 10 minutes. High heat destroys thymoquinone. Low simmer only.
Maximum cleanse protocol: 1 tablespoon twice daily before meals for 2 to 4 weeks. Then take a mandatory 2-week break before resuming.
Storage: Refrigerate leftover strained tea up to 48 hours in a sealed glass jar. Reheat gently over low heat before drinking.
Avoid during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and if taking blood pressure, diabetes, or anticoagulant medications without medical guidance.
